My art is a concoction of feelings, emotions and my peculiar view of the world around me. Nature and it’s beings are my muses. Alien totem creatures that resemble cats and dogs are but just one theme. These spirited entities are inspired by my curiosity in how life comes together and all the possiblities that are not yet realized. I’m attracted to things that are strange in form, color, texture and personality. When I experience nature I do it extremely close-up. I look under rocks to see the thriving little ant colony that lives there. Watching them as they hurridly move their larvea out of dangers way, I am focused mainly on the curious way their canal meandours and try to figure out what the paths intention is. I move on to view a fungus that is lumbering up the side of a moist wooden fence and ponder how it’s path closely resembles that of the ants trail. I stuff miss-shapen stones and shed skins of cicadas into my pockets to use later as inspiration for texture or shape or theme. I figure if I’m going to create art it should be weirdly beautiful. So, why not start with the real thing. There is so much in the world that is expected and mundane. Why would I want to make art in that image? |
